The City of Victorville is GOING GREEN with ORGANICS!

After the passage of CA senate bill (SB) 1383 in 2016 which mandated organic recycling, the City of Victorville and Victorville Disposal (Burrtec Waste Industries) began planning to implement a new residential organic waste recycling program. As of April 2024, all residential accounts, including multi-family properties, now have a green cart for organic materials. This initiative aims to divert organic materials, such as bagged food waste and loose garden trimmings, from ending up in the landfill.

Collected organic materials will be transported to the Victor Valley Compost Facility at 17188 E. Abbey Ln. in Victorville, where they will be turned into compost. By collecting residential and commercial food scraps and yard trimmings, the City can redirect these valuable resources to composting efforts, conserve landfill space, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and produce a valuable and rich compost for city residents, farmers, and other agricultural users.

How Does the Organics Program Work?

All residents should now have a GREEN ORGANICS cart. The cart has a large label on the top that clearly explains what materials can go in the green container. The green cart is for organic materials including food scraps and garden trimmings such as grass clippings, leaves, weeds, and tree trimmings. Food scraps need to be placed in a plastic bag which should be tied shut and then placed in the green cart. Garden trimmings should go into the can loose—not bagged.  The green organics cart will be picked up weekly, on the same day as trash and recyclables.

Got Extra Garden Trimmings?

Sometimes you have more garden waste than will fit in your regular organics container. Residential customers in Victorville can now place up to three 35 gallon (or smaller) plastic containers filled with garden trimmings out for service with their regular organics cart on their normal trash day. The containers will be serviced by Burrtec at no additional cost. Only garden trimmings are permitted. Garden trimmings must be cut down to size and fit all the way inside the container. Container must not have trash, dirt, rocks, or liquids. No cactus. No lumber/boards. No plastic bags. No bundles. No animal waste. Maximum weight of 30 lbs. per container. Maximum number of personal containers is three. Containers that are overweight will not be emptied.  Burrtec Waste or the City of Victorville are not responsible for damage or lost personal containers put out for collection.
