Our top priority is the safety of everyone who visits us at Victorville City Hall.  To ensure the safety of our visitors and employees, we will be enhancing security within our City Hall premises by implementing a new safety protocol that requires the use of metal detectors for screening all individuals who enter the building.

Although the addition of metal detectors is new to Victorville City Hall, this safety measure is a common practice for those who have attended sporting events, large concerts, amusement parks, major public events, or other government buildings.

The implementation of this new safety measure aims at ensuring safety for all and provides peace of mind for our residents, visitors, and employees.

Everyone entering City Hall through the Customer Service entrance or the Council Chamber's entrance will go through a brief metal detector screening, similar to what you see at stadiums and amusement parks. While everyone is welcome at City Hall, dangerous items are not. This safety measure will assist in keeping all safe.

All individuals will be required to empty their pockets, removing car keys, cell phones, and any other metal objects. Once all metal objects have been removed, the individual will be asked to walk through the metal detector by our Victorville Security Staff.

Once the metal detector screening is complete, all bags will be visually inspected by Victorville Security Staff. Bags will be limited to two bags per person: one personal item such as a purse or briefcase, plus one additional item such as a standard backpack. Victorville Security Staff will be on hand to assist with the inspection process and to answer any questions one may have.

Why we are doing this:

The new safety measure is not a response to any known threat or incident. Instead, this new safety measure reflects a time of added security risks and responsibilities.

By implementing this safety measure, this will bring Victorville City Hall in line with practices at other cities, government buildings, sporting venues, and major public places.

Ultimately, the implementation of the metal detector screening is designed to safeguard anyone who visits City Hall and to provide peace of mind to residents, employees, and visitors.
