CITY OF VICTORVILLE AWARDS $3.2 M in HUD FUNDING TO LOCAL SERVICE ORGANIZATIONS & PROGRAMS TO BENEFIT COMMUNITY

VICTORVILLE, Calif. – Today, the City of Victorville announced that it will award more than $3.2 M in federal grant monies from the Department of Housing and Urban Development to local service organizations and programs designed to increase economic opportunities, improve living conditions, expand affordable housing, and assist with Coronavirus response and recovery for Victorville residents.
According to the annual action plans approved by the Victorville City Council on April 20, the City awarded $1,984,583 in Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds, $538,967 in HOME Funds, and $717,254 in CDBG Coronavirus (CDBG-CV) funds.
As an entitlement city with HUD, the City of Victorville receives the federal funding for distribution to eligible nonprofits and service programs that benefit Victorville residents. CDBG funds are to be used to expand economic and living opportunities for low- to moderate-income individuals, while HOME funds are intended to provide decent affordable housing in the community. CDBG-CV funds, which resulted from the federal CARES Act, were allocated to the City to aid with Coronavirus response and recovery.
A total of 34 grants were awarded. The recipients include local community-based programs such as High Desert Homeless Services, High Desert Second Chance, Victor Valley Family Resource Center, Community Health Action Network, Victor Valley Domestic Violence, and San Bernardino Sexual Assault Services. Additionally, monies were awarded to various City programs such as the Library, graffiti abatement program, Senior Home Repair Program, Wellness Center Campus, and the homeless shelter at Westwinds Sports Center.

To inquire about the service programs offered to Victorville residents, contact information for each service provider has been included in the list of grant recipients. The grant awards are subject to change if revisions are made to the federal budget.
This recently approved allocation of federal HUD monies follows the City’s previous allocation of Federal CARES Act funding aimed at assisting local businesses and nonprofits during the pandemic. Last summer, the City allocated $445,000 for its Reopening Victorville Small Business Assistance Grants Program and an additional $121,000 to help local non-profits provide frontline services and programs to residents negatively impacted by COVID-19.
